Invisalign

If you’re just starting your journey into teeth straightening, it may feel a little overwhelming with so many options available. If you’re unsure whether you want a fixed or removable brace then it’s better to understand the differences between the two.

Price

If you’re wanting a more low cost option then we would recommend going for traditional braces, the cheapest being metal braces. If you are wanting fixed braces but willing to spend a little more then lingual braces would be a good option. When it comes to Invisalign, while it is not expensive, the cost  differs between patients based on the number of trays required, and the number of trays will depend on the severity of changes your teeth needs.

Appearance

One of the decisions that sways many people between getting braces and Invisalign is their appearance, and in terms of appearance. As it suggests in the name, Invisalign is virtually invisible, while braces are more noticeable. Invisalign aligners are transparent, whereas braces are made from metal or ceramic.

Comfort

Regardless of whether you choose braces or Invisalign there will be some discomfort involved as you are shifting the alignment of your teeth. However, many people find Invisalign comfier in the mouth overall as it applies less pressure, can be removed (only for brief periods) and won’t cut the inside of your mouth with any wire. However, over time you will get used to both braces or Invisalign.

Effectiveness

For some people they want straight teeth in the shortest amount of time possible, and so braces are the best option. Invisalign also requires the patient to take some responsibility over the effectiveness of their treatment since they are removable trays. If patients wear the Invisalign aligners less than the recommended amount, this will lengthen the total treatment time. Braces are also more effective in treating severely misaligned teeth, while Invisalign cannot always straighten rotated or overlapped teeth.

Convenience

When it comes to convenience this is entirely a personal preference as both Invisalign and braces have their pros and cons. For some people braces are more convenient because you don’t have to take them out, but this then restricts the patient from eating certain foods. While with Invisalign, you can eat your favourite food but you just need to remember to take them out before eating.

Care and Cleaning

Whether you choose braces or Invisalign the top priority must always be cleaning and caring for your teeth. With braces, you only need to brush and floss in between the brackets to make sure there is no food stuck there. With Invisalign, you need to make sure you are brushing and flossing your teeth as normal, but you will also need to clean the aligners to make sure there is no plaque build-up.

It can be difficult to know which orthodontic treatment is right for you, but if you get in touch we can talk you through the different options and get you booked in for a free consultation to see which brace suits you best. Contact us today by calling 0161 622 0987.
